A few of our members shared that they use a rating scale when evaluating their employees. Most employers do connect their reviews to a merit increase as well. Their reviews focus on past performance and use standardized metrics to assess employee contributions. They usually involve a manager assessing an employee against predefined criteria, often including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and providing feedback.
One particular company based their review process on a process called Catalytic Coaching by Gary Markle (https://www.catalyticcoaching.com/). Through this process the employee is coached forward. The whole goal of the process is to focus on the future rather than dredging up the past. The process also includes the employee from the beginning. It replaces rear-view performance management with future-focused growth.
